BMJ: Milk is the most common cause of fatal allergies in British children

Food allergies are large, and severe allergies caused by food allergies will even threaten patients’ lives. Recently, researchers have inspected the changes in the hospitalization rate of patients due to food allergies in the past 20 years.


Researchers collected data related to allergic reactions and death hospitalization in 1998 to 2018, as well as the prescription data of adrenaline in 1998-2018 to 2018. From 1998 to 2018, 101891 people were admitted to the hospital for allergies, of which 30700 (30.1%) were food inducement. The admission rate of patients with food allergies increased from 1.23 cases per 100,000 in 1998 to 4.04 in 2018, an increase of 5.7%each year. Among them The population of 2.1 was increased to 9.2 (an annual growth rate of 6.6%). In contrast, the annual growth rate of people aged 15-59 is 5.9%, and the annual growth rate of people 60 or above is 2.1%. In the fatal incident caused by allergic reactions caused by food, 152 deaths were confirmed. The death rate of cases of diagnosis of mortal food allergies dropped from 0.7%to 0.19%(ratio 0.931), and the mortality of suspected dead food allergies dropped from 0.9%to 0.30%(0.970). At least 46%(86 people, of which 35 people died between 1992-98) were caused by peanuts or nuts allergies. Of the 66 school -age children (26%) died of milk allergies. During the research period, the prescription of the automatic injection device of the adrenaline increased by 336%(the estimated ratio was 1.113; the annual increase was increased by 11%).

Studies have found that from 1998 to 2018, the number of hospitalizations caused by food caused by food increased due to food, but the mortality rate decreased. Among school -age children, milk allergies are the most common causes of fatal allergies.
