Some time ago, the eighty -year -old mother -in -law (pseudonym) was caught by the door while riding the elevator, causing pain in the back and lower limbs, and could not walk normally. After going to the hospital for examination, she was diagnosed with a compressed fracture of the lumbar spine. The doctor suggested to rest in bed and observe the situation.
Li’s mother -in -law’s family was not assured, and took her to a certain three hospital for treatment. After a series of inspections, considering the older mother -in -law’s age, Director Zhou Guoping of the Rehabilitation Department also suggested conservative treatment.
The family of mother -in -law said that after her age, she became more and more picky. She almost only ate white porridge with pickles with pickles in three meals a day. The reason why her condition is so serious may be related to severe osteoporosis.
1. The older the age, the more loose bones? it is true
Osteoporosis is a common disease that manifested as low bone mass, damage to the micro -structures of the bone tissue, and increased bone crispy. Patients are prone to fractures. Osteoporosis can make the bones fragile. In addition to falling, bending, sneezing and other behaviors may also cause fractures.
As we grow older, our bone quality will continue to lose.
When he was young, the human body formed bones faster than bone loss. At the age of 35, the body’s bone mass reaches the peak. After about 10 years, the losing bone quality will exceed the bone of the formation, and the bone mass will continue to decrease. If there is no timely intervention, bone looseness may occur.
The harm of osteoporosis is not just fractures, it has become one of the main factors of disability and death of the elderly. A survey of epidemiology shows that among the people over 65 years old in my country, the incidence of osteoporosis is 32%, of which the incidence of women is higher than that of men and is 51.6%.
Second, the harm may be fatal
Director Zhang Wenhong of Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University pointed out that the awareness rate of osteoporosis is very low, and more than 90%of patients do not know that they have osteoporosis. As a common chronic disease for the elderly, osteoporosis will be very troublesome once it occurs.
Clinically, many elderly people have fractures because of their osteoporosis, and they have been slightly damaged. The healing is very difficult, which not only seriously reduces the quality of life, affects life, but also brings a lot of medical costs.
The most serious complications of osteoporosis are osteoporosis fractures, commonly in spine, hips and wrists. After the fracture occurs, the patient’s life can change huge changes, including long -term tolerance of pain, and long -term recovery is needed. In severe cases, it can lead to disability, loss of self -care, and greatly reduce the quality of life.
Among them, the hip fracture is the highest, and it is called “the last fracture of life”. According to the survey, about 20%of patients who died due to various complications within one year after hip fractures occurred. The older the patient, the higher the risk of death. About 40%of the surviving patients cannot walk independently, and most patients need to take care of others.
Third, do not want to loosen the bones, 3 kinds of food should be eaten less
It is often said that “the disease comes from the mouth”, and the osteoporosis is also closely related to the diet. Whether the elderly or young people, they want to reduce the loss of bone mass and prevent osteoporosis. The following three kinds of food should be eaten as little as possible.
1. Carbonated drink
Most carbonated beverages have high phosphate content, while the human body’s calcium phosphorus level has a great impact on bones. Drinking carbonated drinks can easily lead to excessive intake of phosphate, decreased calcium absorption, and gradually change the structure of the bone, which eventually causes the loss of bone mass and increases the risk of osteoporosis.
Alcohol is a carcinogen and harm to the body. Alcohol (ethanol) is a kind of gonad toxin. Excessive intake can cause decreased adrenal function, reduce the secretion of sex hormones, cause bone production reduction, and increase bone loss.
At the same time, alcohol is more damaged to the liver. Drinking alcohol often can damage liver cells, reduce the synthesis of vitamin D3, and affect the normal absorption and utilization of calcium and phosphorus.
3. High -salt food
The sodium ions of the human body are mainly discharged through urine. If you eat too salty, the excessive sodium ions will increase, and the calcium ions that are lost will increase, and the risk of osteoporosis will increase. It is recommended that each person’s daily salt amount is controlled within 6G to avoid high -salt diets.
Fourth, do 3 things well, bones are stronger
The Guide to Patients with Orthopedics pointed out that if you want to keep bone health, you can start from multiple aspects of life and do 3 things well.
1. Balanced diet
Balanced diet, reasonable supplementation of nutrients such as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, vitamin D, protein, etc., lean meat, fish, vegetables, and fruits are appropriately intake to keep the taste light as much as possible to avoid taking too much salt.
2. Do 3 more sports
“British Sports Medical Magazine” recommends that patients with osteoporosis should do 3 more sports to promote bone strength:
· Anti -resistance and impact movement, such as jogging, raising dumbbells, jumping, etc.;
· Movement to improve strength and balance, such as Tai Chi, dance, yoga;
· Stretching spine, such as various common stretching movements.
It is recommended to exercise 3 to 5 days a week, step by step, gradually increase the intensity, and avoid sedentary.
3. Quit smoking limit alcohol
The damage of cigarettes and alcohol to the body is self -evident. In addition to osteoporosis, diseases such as heart disease and cancer are related to a large amount of smoking and excessive drinking. It is best to quit smoking and limit alcohol.
Osteoporosis is called a “silent killer”. Everyone must not ignore it. No matter who, to develop good life and eating habits, it is a little far away from osteoporosis. If you find that you or your family have related symptoms, you should seek medical treatment in time and not delay.
